FRENCH TELECOM - FORTHCOMING
CHANGES !
(From the 18th October 1996, at 23h00 lt, all French phone numbers will have 10 digits. You only need to insert 2 digits before the existing 8 digit number.)
These two new digits will preface the existing 8 digit number
(whose first two digits are indicated) as follows:
(for example 56-44-38-22 becomes 05-56-44-38-22)

- "01" for Paris area : (30,34,39,40,41,42,43,44,45,46,47,48,49,53,55,60,64,69.)
- "02" for North-West: (31,32,33,35,37,38,39,40,41,43,47,48,51,54,96,97,98,99.)
- "03" for North-East: (20,21,22,23,24,25,26,27,28,29,44,60,80,81,82,83,84,85,86,87,88,89.)
- "04" for South-East: (42,50,66,67,68,69,70,71,72,73,74,75,76,77,78,79,90,91,92,93,94,95,)
- "05" for South-West: (34,45,46,49,53,55,56,57,58,59,61,62,63,65.)
Carte de France For the DOM:
  • Put a "0" in front of the existing 3 digit area code.
To call outside France and TOM:
  • Dial "00" instead of the existing "19" code, before you dial the International access code.
To call France from other countries:
  • Dial your own international access code, then "33" in order to reach France, then the area code minus the "0" then the former 8 digit number.
    This means that:
    • There will be no changes for the "Paris area".
    • For other parts of France, the
      (33) 56-44-38-22 for example, becomes (33) 556-44-38-22.
The numbers which are changing:
  • The "11" becomes "3611"
  • "06" will preface the majority of Mobile services, such as Cellulars phones, Bi-Bop, "Réponses", Paging devices, Maritim and Fluvial Radios.
  • "08" will preface the 8 digit numbers starting with "36": Transpac, Audiotel, Télétel, except for the "Azur" numbers starting with "3663"; for these numbers, "36" will be replaced by "0-801"
  • For Free Call numbers, the first two digits "05" will be replaced by the well known "0-800" (Ex. 05-45-32-94 becomes 0-800-45-32-94).

...and those which are not changing:

  • The 2 digit numbers for the Information and Emergency services such as:
    the 12, 13, 14, 15, 17 et 18.
  • The 4 digit numbers starting with "36" (Ex. 3614, 3615, etc...).
